NuQloud Talk: Chat, Calls, and Meetings
NuQloud Talk is the private place in NuQloud for one-to-one messages, team conversations, audio and video calls, and meetings. It is compatible with Nextcloud Talk when that name appears in an app store or device prompt.
This guide is for everyday participants. Conversation creators and moderators may see additional controls, and the exact labels can vary slightly with the version of NuQloud Talk in use.
Start a Conversation
Send a direct message
- Open NuQloud Talk from the NuQloud app menu.
- Use search to find a person.
- Select their name to open a private conversation.
- Type a message and send it.
A direct conversation is visible only to its participants. Use it for a quick question, an update, or a private call.
Create a team conversation
- Select the new conversation control beside search.
- Choose a group conversation.
- Give it a clear, purpose-based name, such as
Client onboarding — NorthwindorOperations weekly. - Add the people or groups who need access.
- Review the access options, then create the conversation.
Use an invited/private conversation for work that should remain limited to a known group. If a moderator enables a link-accessible conversation, anyone who receives that link may be able to join according to its settings. Treat meeting links like invitations: send them only to the intended people and do not post them publicly.
Use Chat Well
Send messages and files
Write a message in the composer, then send it. To share a file, use the attachment control and choose an existing NuQloud file or upload a file where that option is available.
Before sharing, check that every conversation participant should have access to the file. Files shared in a conversation can become accessible to the people in that conversation, including guests when guest access is enabled.
Reply, react, and find information
Open a message's action menu to use the options available to you. Depending on the NuQloud Talk version and your permissions, these can include:
- Replying to keep a discussion attached to the original message.
- Adding a reaction to acknowledge an update without creating more chat noise.
- Editing or deleting your own message.
- Forwarding an important message to another appropriate conversation or your note-to-self space.
- Opening shared files and conversation details.
Use replies for a topic that needs more than one answer. Use a reaction for a simple acknowledgement such as “seen” or “approved.”
Start or Join a Call
- Open the relevant conversation.
- Select Start call. If another person has already started it, select Join call instead.
- At the device check, choose the intended microphone and camera.
- Confirm that your microphone indicator responds when you speak.
- Join the call.
During a call, the usual controls let you mute or unmute, turn the camera on or off, leave the call, open chat, and choose a layout. The available controls depend on the device and NuQloud Talk version.
Share your screen
- Join the call from a current desktop browser or desktop app.
- Choose the screen-sharing control.
- Select the screen, application window, or browser tab to share.
- Confirm the browser or operating-system prompt.
- Stop sharing as soon as you finish.
Before sharing, close unrelated windows and notifications. Share a single window or tab when that is enough; it is the safer and clearer option.
Schedule a Meeting With NuQloud Calendar
NuQloud Talk and NuQloud Calendar can work together when both apps are enabled for your account.
Schedule from a Talk conversation
- Open the conversation that should host the meeting.
- Open the conversation actions and choose the option to schedule a meeting, if it is available.
- Enter the meeting title, date, time, and a short agenda.
- Choose whether to invite all conversation participants or selected people.
- Save the event.
The event appears in NuQloud Calendar and the conversation can show the upcoming meeting, giving participants one place for the discussion, event details, and call.
Schedule from NuQloud Calendar
- Create or open an event in NuQloud Calendar.
- Add the title, time, attendees, and reminders.
- In the event location or meeting option, select a NuQloud Talk conversation when that option is available.
- Save the event and send invitations as appropriate.
- Open the conversation link from the event when it is time to meet.
Calendar can create an event conversation when no suitable conversation already exists. Event conversations may be removed after a period of inactivity set by the provider, so use a normal team conversation for ongoing work or records you need to keep.
Invite Guests Carefully
Your provider may enable guest or public-link access for some conversations. A guest normally joins from the link in a browser and may be asked for a display name. The available guest controls are set by the conversation moderator and provider.
- Confirm that guest access is allowed before promising it to an external participant.
- Send the invitation directly to the guest rather than sharing it in a public calendar or channel.
- Remove or change the link access after a sensitive meeting if moderator controls are available.
- Use a normal invite-only conversation whenever external access is not required.
Notifications and Availability
For timely call and message alerts:
- Allow notifications when your browser, desktop app, or mobile app asks.
- Check that the device is not in Do Not Disturb or Focus mode.
- In NuQloud Talk settings, review conversation notification settings when messages are unexpectedly silent.
- Keep the mobile app updated and allow background activity if your phone requires that permission.
Use a NuQloud AI Assistant
Your provider may make one or more NuQloud AI assistants available in selected Talk conversations. Each assistant can have different knowledge, tools, limits, and audience rules. An assistant available to one group or conversation may not be available everywhere.
- Confirm the assistant is present in the conversation.
- Mention its displayed name and state one clear goal.
- When you need an answer from a guide or document, ask the assistant to check its knowledge sources instead of answering from general memory.
- When an action requires approval, review the exact action and target before confirming. Wait for the action result before treating it as complete.
Do not share sensitive material until you understand your provider's AI policy. An assistant can use only its assigned capabilities and the data you are allowed to access; it does not receive automatic access to every NuQloud file or Talk conversation.
Transcribe an attachment or stored recording
When speech transcription and the required assistant tools are configured, you can ask an assistant to transcribe:
- an audio, voice, video, or recording attachment in your current message;
- an audio/video file stored in NuQloud Files that you can access; or
- a Talk recording from the current conversation that the assistant can locate.
For a stored file, provide a filename fragment or ask the assistant to show safe matching filenames and dates before choosing one. For a Talk recording, include the conversation and approximate date, such as “transcribe the recording from this conversation on September 27.” If several recordings match, select the intended one instead of asking the assistant to guess.
Talk recordings can be owned by the participant who started the recording. If a recording is not visible in your Files, that participant may need to share it with you. The assistant searches the Files view available to you; an administrator does not need to grant it blanket access to a server folder.
Quick Troubleshooting
| Problem | Try this first |
|---|---|
| You cannot hear or be heard | Check the selected microphone in the pre-call device check, then confirm the browser or app has microphone permission. |
| Your camera is unavailable | Close another app that may be using it, then allow camera permission and rejoin. |
| Screen sharing is missing | Use a current supported desktop browser or desktop app and check its screen-recording permission. |
| You missed a call or message | Check NuQloud Talk, browser, and device notification permissions; also check Do Not Disturb or Focus mode. |
| You cannot join a conversation | Ask its creator or moderator to confirm that you were invited and that any link-access setting is still active. |
| An AI assistant is missing or silent | Confirm it is present, mention its displayed name, and send one short text request. If it remains unavailable, ask the provider to check its audience and service status. |
| A recording cannot be found for transcription | Confirm you can open it in Files, provide the conversation and date, and remember that the participant who started recording may own it. |
